To kick off the holiday season of helping, hundreds of guests stopped by the O’Reilly Theater for the first-ever Yelp! Helps. Held in conjunction with Pittsburgh Public Theater and Good People, Yelp! showcased 20 area nonprofits. Yelpers gathered goods — including WHIRL’s November issue featuring our first-ever Giving Guide — on how to assist in the city, and discovered potential ways to reciprocate. There were treats galore, too, including the Elbow Room’s pulled pork sliders, Franktuary’s poutine, Burgatory’s s’mores shake, and Om Nom Bake Studio’s peppermint cookies. Wigle Whiskey, Great Lakes Brewing Company, and Fuze supplied the drinks. A Town Hall Series, hosted by PPT, concluded the hoopla. Attendees heard from the city’s most involved do-gooders, including representatives from Play It Forward Pittsburgh, Operation: Troop Appreciation, Assemble, and The Sprout Fund.
