Dr. Gabriel Gonzalez swept Dr. Alexis Pelekanos off her feet the moment they met. When he arrived at her family’s holiday dinner with flowers for Alexis and her mother, she was instantly smitten. Both of their families remained close during the couple’s six-month courtship and even vacationed together at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel. That’s where Gabriel’s youngest nephew surprised Alexis by getting down on one knee and asking if she would marry his uncle. (Aw!) Their families played an important role in many aspects of the big day, starting with the color scheme. “We chose the color purple because that was Gabe’s mom’s favorite color when she was alive,” Alexis explains. Throughout the St. Paul Cathedral ceremony and Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown reception, the doctors (she at Designs in Dentistry and he at Forbes Regional Hospital) beautifully fused their respective Greek and Mexican cultures in every way. Dinner included everything from lamb chops and spanakopita, to enchiladas and empanadas. For the evening’s entertainment, guests enjoyed a 14-piece mariachi band and even joined the Greek belly dancer on the dance floor!
