Having celebrated its first anniversary last October, Life is Sweet Bakery Café in Mt. Lebanon not only caters to commuters and the community, but brides and grooms, too. Aside from sandwiches, custom salads, and homemade soup, the shop offers cupcakes, cakes, pastries, handmade confections, and cookies and bars for its epicurious clientele. Personalized desserts or favors in the form of dark coconut bark, assorted truffles, and salted caramels (all shown here), to name a few, are available for weddings, bridal showers, and bachelorette parties. “We make our own modeling chocolate, which we use to personalize Oreos and other things, like monograms on cupcakes. It tastes a lot better than fondant,” co-owner Kelly Bareford says. The seasoned home baker and her equally talented business partner, Christine Mains, make everything from scratch with the exception of danishes — still sold fresh daily. “We thought the area needed something like this,” Bareford says. “We have wonderful coffee from local roaster 19 Coffee and WiFi. We offer our space for baby and bridal showers, and events for 30 to 35 people with the purchase of product.” Bareford and Mains upgraded the building with warm paint hues, granite counter tops, private dining areas, crisp décor, and an upstairs space for parties and classes. In fact, March 30 kicks off its six-week yoga session — the second of its kind — on Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m., taught by Dana Barone of Yoga Innovations. Adds Bareford, “We’re happy to provide a gathering place, our sweets, and yoga to the community, and anything for a wedding, well, we love.”
