Shortly after Ryan Very proposed to Cristena Jenner, they knew they wanted their wedding to be at The Grand Hall at The Priory Hotel. The overall look for the day, however, was still up in the air. “After we booked it, I went to Allegheny Commons Park, where I knew I wanted to do photos, one year before our wedding. When I saw the bright yellow leaves, I knew I had to pick colors that didn’t clash with the setting or the Priory.” Warm, cranberry bridesmaids’ dresses — that looked beautiful on her sisters and sisters-in-law! — became the perfect fit, and neutral bouquets with pops of red followed suit. Cristena fit the classic feel in a strapless, lace gown from Bridal Suite Boutique, a shop owned by her best friend from home. A matching lace jacket kept the bride warm during the ceremony and outdoor photo shoot, but she traded the jacket for lace straps to wear at the reception. Throughout the planning process, Cristena stayed stress-free by keeping a thorough schedule and keeping Ryan involved in the process. “It’s important to do the wedding planning together,” Cristena says. “This is the first big project you’re doing together. It has its own challenges, but it’s an experience that helps prepare you for marriage.”

Ryan and Cristena shared their first dance to “Stars Go Blue” by Ryan Adams, one of Ryan’s favorite artists. “The song is beautiful and not played as a first dance song too often.”

Their wedding served as the first opportunity for Cristena’s New Jersey family and Ryan’s Pittsburgh family to spend quality time together.

Cristena’s father designed and hand-built this wooden chest to hold cards and gifts at the reception.

The couple served a half chocolate, half white cake with textured buttercream frosting. “I like when a cake looks like my grandma made it,” Cristena says. “Fresh, real, tasty.
