In his final game as a shooting guard for the LA Lakers on April 13, 2016, at 37 years old, Kobe Bryant became the oldest player to score 60 in a single game and set the highest point total in the 2015-16 regular season. It is a statistic that makes jaws drop in a tremendously jaw-dropping athletic career. But as is the case with all high-achieving athletes, there are reasons for those results.

Kobe Bryant is on a number of quests as a post-professional athlete, and it is safe to call all of those goals now. One of them is to become as big in business as he was in the National Basketball Association, and to do it while helping and teaching others.

Enter the Art of Sport, a newly launched high performance body care line. The emphasis on performance-driven, scientific-based personal care products designed with the athlete in mind attracted Bryant, who stepped in as a founding partner as recently as October 2018. His role
is the brand leader, the story teller, and within weeks of joining the team, Bryant took the line to new heights with far-ranging athletic partnerships, including Pittsburgh Steelers Juju Smith-Schuster.

With a business mentor in Bryant, Smith-Schuster has a personal interest in performance body care that refreshes, reenergizes, and rehydrates the skin using the best botanicals available. Along with an impressive athlete Art of Sport roster, Smith-Schuster will help Bryant to promote the mindful body care concept.

Watching the Art of Sport develop over the next year will be as much fun as listening to those squeaky shoes on the basketball boards!

Art of Sport founder, Matthias Metternich, and Kobe Bryant

Art of Sport, a new body care brand formulated from the ground up to recharge, refresh and
protect athletes’ skin, has launched. Founded by entrepreneur Matthias Metternich, the brand was born to address the skin care needs of the modern athlete. Developed by leading skincare scientists and with insights from Art of Sport’s world-class athlete partners, the company designed a lineup of essential body care products to help athletes reach peak performance.

The debut product line includes Deodorant, Antiperspirant, Hair + Body Wash, Body Bar, Sunscreen and a soon-to-be released ultra-strength Recovery Cream.

“Everything from what athletes wear and consume to how they recover has continued to evolve,”
said Matthias Metternich, founder and CEO. “We didn’t see anyone transferring that same level of innovation and consideration into what athletes apply on their skin. By working with the
best scientists and best athletes, we’ve created body and skincare products that can keep up with the performance needs of athletes at all levels.”

Five-time NBA Champion and Academy Award® Winner, Kobe Bryant, joined Metternich and Art of Sport Co-founder Brian Lee, as a founding athlete. He’ll advise on all aspects of the business with a focus on brand-building and storytelling. Shortly after Bryant joined, the team partnered with
other world-class athletes across sports, including:

• Javier Báez, 2016 World Series Champion and All-Star second baseman

• Sage Erickson, Professional Surfer

• James Harden, Reigning NBA MVP

• Ken Roczen, World Champion Motocross and Supercross Racer

• Ryan Sheckler, Skating Legend and X-Games Gold Medalist

• JuJu Smith-Schuster, Electrifying NFL Wide Receiver

“An athlete, at any level, is always focused on how to improve,” said Kobe Bryant. “With Art of Sport, the goal is simple – provide innovative body care products designed for sports performance. We brought together the best minds in skincare to develop products that allow athletes to stay focused on competition.”

The brand’s lead scientists, Dr. Shekhar Mitra and Dr. Laurence Dryer, helped to design new formulas that are engineered with powerful botanicals and performance ingredients, and made without common chemicals found in body and skincare products that your skin doesn’t need such as parabens, oxybenzone, PABA, MIT/MCIT, talc and 1, 4 dioxane. Each product is carefully formulated to perform better for athletes’ skin while keeping it fresh, invigorated and strong.
