The black and gold’s 80th season and “Year of the Fan” were celebrated at Heinz Field’s Hyundai Club West for Taste of the Steelers 2012, a reunion reception, part of the Pittsburgh Steelers Alumni Weekend. A star-studded list of attendees, including Jerome Bettis, Dermontti Dawson, Willie Parker, John Stallworth, Joe Greene (who was far from mean, says Rebecca Whitlinger, Cancer Caring Center’s executive director), and running backs Coach Dick Hoak, shared stories and memories. Chairs Greta and Art Rooney II hosted the sold-out event, which honored the legacy of the team, its players, and its fans, and benefited the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute, UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program, and the Cancer Caring Center. The night exemplified the Steelers’ long-standing tradition of supporting the Pittsburgh community.
