Dan Burda and Steven Perrine did not want a traditional wedding — they wanted to make a difference. “In lieu of gifts, we decided to have a $50 per person donation to benefit the Western Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,” Dan says. Almost 400 guests joined the festivities at Studio Raw Hair Salon, donating to the cause and embracing the dress code of white ensembles, with wedding dresses strongly encouraged. Everyone enjoyed the special ceremony performed by Dan’s twin brother and a family friend, the late-night pizza bar by Adrian’s Pizza, and the appearance by a special guest: Morgan Yoney. “She’s been very, very sick,” Dan says, “but sure enough, we see Morgan showing up in her wheelchair with three oxygen tanks strapped to the back. That was a highlight moment.” The celebration raised over $26,000 for the foundation, supporting patients, like Morgan, and fulfilling the couple’s dreams for their big day. “Genuinely, we wanted to make our day about sharing our love for one another, but we also wanted to use our day — especially being a gay wedding, which typically raises a lot of attention — to show that when two people love each other, that’s all that matters,” Dan says. “Let’s put this attention to a more important thing, like people who have a disease called cystic fibrosis.”

One of Dan’s favorite memories was sharing the dance floor with his friend, Morgan Yoney. “The perfect example of why [the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation] is important was among everyone that night.”

The couple enlisted Brazilian dancers and belly dancers to keep the party going. “We really feel that if you want people to enjoy your wedding, then you have to entertain them,” Dan says.
