The love between Rebecca Klein and Michael Segal started to bloom during their freshman year at the University of Michigan and continued to flourish through graduation, two years of long distance as she completed her master’s degree in New York, and then a move to be together in Chicago. After a surprise proposal during a spa day at the Four Seasons, plans for their wedding began to grow, too. Rebecca fell in love with the look of “bunches of flowers” after researching weddings from Europe to L.A. Her dream vision came true with a “cloud-like, draped flower tunnel” leading guests into the Rodef Shalom Congregation sanctuary, a chuppah with over 4,000 white dendrobium orchids for the ceremony, and a summer garden party atmosphere at the tented cocktail hour on the synagogue’s terrace. Back inside for the reception, 305 guests marveled at the whimsical floor-to-ceiling draping and soft blue uplighting in the completely transformed ballroom. By alternating four different floral arrangements and three different overlays on a mix of square, round, and rectangular dinner tables, the couple set an elegant, multidimensional scene. The magic continued inside the sky-lit atrium with twinkling blue lanterns dangling above a delicious spread of dessert options. “My favorite aspect of our wedding was that we enjoyed the best of both worlds by including spectacular indoor and outdoor settings during our big night,” Rebecca says. “Our guests felt like they were treated to a fabulous destination wedding right here in the heart of Pittsburgh!”

Rebecca donned a custom Monique Lhuillier gown featuring a strapless bodice of French Alencon lace; dropped, diagonal waistline; and full ball gown skirt with three tiers of silk tulle, edged with a border of horse hair covered in the same lace from the bodice. A cathedral-length mantilla with a matching border topped it all off.

White roses, hydrangeas, dendrobium orchids, phalaenopsis orchids, calla lilies, and blue hydrangeas and delphinium were all incorporated into the lavish centerpieces in some way. “Nathan from Hens and Chicks was able to create a fairytale atmosphere beyond our wildest dreams!”
