At the 59th Annual Diamond Horseshoe Ball, 300 guests gathered to ring in the Pittsburgh Opera’s 75th season in serious style! A decadent invitation, designed by Create Studio, invited supporters to the historic Omni William Penn Hotel, the location of the inaugural ball in 1954. Bill Chisnell Productions designed the décor at the elaborate event, highlighted by performances by resident artists, live and silent auctions, and dancing to the sounds of “In The Mood.” Best of all, $240,000 was raised to benefit the Pittsburgh Opera! The auction included Joden World Resources’ “Pageant of Diamonds,” which featured a diamond tiara, antique pieces, and fine jewelry designed by Carlo Giuliano. Chairs Electra and Jim Agras, and co-chairs Susan and Nicholas Loutsion, were assisted by the planning committee, comprised of Gabriela and David Porges; and Nancy and John Traina. Auction chairs Sandie and Bob Brand, and co-chairs Roseanne and Mark Wholey also contributed to the fantastic fête. “Many opera companies open their seasons with majestic celebrations, but only we have a tradition as long and as storied as the Diamond Horseshoe Ball,” says outgoing Special Events Manager Sam Badger. “It was a shimmering and glittering evening of merriment and entertainment.”
