Katy Dorman and Kyle Werner attended the same high school together, but didn’t officially begin dating until the summer before Katy left for college. “Kyle was two years ahead of me in high school, so we had some mutual acquaintances but different circles of friends,” Katy explains. Something sparked between the two when they crossed paths again at a Fourth of July party, and they went on to date for over seven years. Sparks flew again — literally! — when Kyle proposed to Katy halfway through a fireworks show they were enjoying while on vacation in Myrtle Beach, S.C. “It was the only time in almost eight years of dating he was able to keep a secret and truly surprise me,” says Katy. They were also happily surprised when loved ones from 15 different states came to celebrate at the Heinz Memorial Chapel ceremony and Pittsburgh Athletic Association reception. “The overwhelming sense of love and happiness we felt for one another and the people near and dear to us in attendance was incredible,” Katy says. “It was a truly perfect day that we never wanted to end.”

“I knew I could not have picked a more perfect wedding dress when I saw the look on Kyle’s face as I walked down the aisle to be his wife!” Katy says of the lace gown with an illusion back.

Pink peonies, sweet peas, and roses added a fun pop of color to the day.

The couple cut into a vanilla cake with raspberry jam and almond buttercream, then shared cupcakes in flavors ranging from red velvet to chocolate espresso with their guests.

Dan + Shay’s “From the Ground Up” played during Katy and Kyle’s first dance as husband and wife.
