Kelly McMahon and Sam Mignogna were in seventh grade when they met at a school dance. Little did they know, they would share their first dance as husband and wife 10 years later to Dave Matthews Band’s “Steady As We Go.” As time passed, the friends started dating in college — with Sam attending the University of Pittsburgh and Kelly studying at Duquesne University — and were engaged three years later. The couple felt it was important to incorporate Sam’s alma mater into their wedding day, so they chose Heinz Memorial Chapel for their ceremony and later took photos in the Cathedral of Learning. Afterward, they invited their guests to the Omni William Penn Hotel for an elegant and traditional reception. “We instantly fell in love with the architecture in the lobby and in the ballroom,” Kelly says. The regal, metallic décor fit perfectly with the couple’s color scheme and added warmth to their fall day. For those planning a similar celebration, Kelly advises, “Take your time with wedding planning and enjoy the time you spend with your family. Our best advice would be to book a band that will keep the energy alive throughout the evening.”
