Alix Wiggins and Nate Hoylman always loved the idea of a New Year’s Eve wedding — both the symbolism of starting a new adventure and the party atmosphere. The fun started right away on their big day, as loved ones received a glass of Champagne while entering the New Hazlett Theater for the nuptials. After Nate’s uncle performed the heartfelt ceremony, where the bride and groom exchanged personal vows and participated in a traditional handfasting ceremony, Alix and Nate grabbed their own glasses of bubbly and joined everyone in toasting to the newlyweds and the New Year! The festivities continued with a salute to Pittsburgh’s finest purveyors. “We’re both in the service industry, so we wanted to have our products there and support friends who own local businesses,” says Alix, noting that her cheese from Wheel and Wedge and his beer from Roundabout Brewery were served alongside an array of local delicacies. “It was fun going through all the planning with friends and colleagues,” Alix says. “It really represented us.” Before the beautiful night ended, guests joined in the count down to the New Year and cheered as confetti rained over the crowd at midnight. “The DJ played ‘Auld Lang Syne,’ and the dance party got even crazier from there!”
