Since it first opened in 2007, Murray Avenue Apothecary has sought to provide clients with a more individualized approach to health and wellness. “I wanted to combine a neighborhood feeling with evidence-based science to help people to achieve quality of life,” says Susan Merenstein, Murray Avenue Apothecary owner and head pharmacist.

One of the most notable aspects of Murray Avenue Apothecary is that it is a Compounding Pharmacy. Compounding enables physicians to prescribe individualized and creative medication solutions for those who do not fit the “pharmaceutical cookie cutter mold.” Gentle Hormone Restoration Therapies, Hair Loss RX’s, Topical Pain Medication, and Dermatologicals are prepared in the on-site, visible laboratory by board-certified pharmacy technicians and pharmacists using FDA-approved, USP chemicals. As a destination for health and beauty the Apothecary is home to the exclusive Non Toxic and Affordable LabNaturals Skin Care.

Murray Avenue Apothecary’s compounding services also benefit patients with four paws! As Pittsburgh’s top Pet Pharmacy, the Squirrel Hill/Greenfield locale caters to animals’ individual medication needs.

The renovations — funded in part by the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh, the City of Pittsburgh’s economic development agency — have allowed Murray Avenue Apothecary to expand its services and care, all under one, stylish roof. Updates include a new and brightly colored awning, a neon sign, and a new paint job, as well as its on-site Sexual Health Boutique. The new center provides the products and knowledge to help men and women achieve healthier sex lives, even offering sexual and hormonal imbalance consultations, and accepts referrals from local gynecologists, uro-gynecologists, sex therapists, and physical therapists.

One of Murray Avenue Apothecary’s goals is to break the mold of what Merenstein calls the “one size fits all” approach to health. “I want people to know that we are a neighborhood gem, and that we are not a typical pharmacy,” Merenstein says. With an array of unique and comprehensive services, Murray Avenue Apothecary’s approach to health and wellness is anything but typical.
