Kelly Hester’s roommate and Michael Frank’s best friend were in a relationship, and it wasn’t long before they were making a love connection between their mutual friends. A first date to a South Side bar to watch the Steelers play a Monday Night Football game cemented their compatibility, and after two years of dating, Michael was ready to pop the question. It was early December, the just-right time to decorate the Christmas tree, and as per Kelly’s request, the ornaments were laid out in an orderly fashion, waiting to be hung. But Michael threw a big surprise into the plans by presenting her with an extra-special ornament — for her hand — as he dropped to one knee. “It was perfect, just us in a private setting,” says Kelly. On a beautiful Friday evening in July, a bagpiper played as Kelly walked down the aisle of Epiphany Catholic Church, a nod to their families’ “strong Irish heritage.” The celebration moved to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum, decorated in Champagne shades, with simple, stunning floral arrangements of white and green by Bella Floral. A special serenade by Kelly’s grandfather, dad, and four uncles, marked a high point in the reception — the singing of “The Glory of Love,” is a family tradition, and it was a “lovely surprise” to the couple. A honeymoon to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic was a happy ending to the wedding. Says Kelly, “Everything ended up being just perfect.”
