When Hannah Reese and Matt Brown wed in front of family, friends, and their two children, one thing was clear: a wedding may be just one day out of many in a relationship, but the magic of an official union has the potential to mean far more. The two, who met when Matt returned from serving overseas, planned their big day with the help of Warrior Wedding, which asked veteran couples to share their love stories for a chance to win their dream wedding. They received the good news, that they would be walking down a very stylish aisle at the Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh, after receiving news that was truly devastating. Their newborn son Colton was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy and given less than two years to live. Amidst what quickly became a stressful life in the hospital — with Hannah nearly trying on gowns at the hospital when time started to get tight! — the details fell into place and served as something to look forward to. “I wouldn’t change a thing,” Hannah says of day, which dazzled in shades of plum, fuchsia, lilac, and gold and overflowed with beautiful orchids. Her most cherished memory was watching Alayna, her four-year-old daughter, pull Colton down the aisle in an adorable wagon. “I’m so happy that they were both able to be a part of such a huge day in both of our lives. We’re just so blessed to have them both here with us,” Hannah says. “The whole experience was amazing. Good things do happen; you just have to be patient.”

With all of their time and funds focused on Colton, the couple had written off a wedding. The day was as much a surprise as it was a dream.
