The American Cancer Society scored a slamdunk at the third annual Hoops for Hope Gala, held at the Senator John Heinz History Center. This year’s “Coaches vs. Cancer” were four Pittsburgh Division I Men’s and Women’s basketball leaders: University of Pittsburgh’s Jamie Dixon and Agnus Berenato and Robert Morris University’s Mike Rice and Sal Buscaglia. Gala guests were hooping it up to the music of The Rick Purcell Band with Shari Richards, while placing their bids on an array of auction items. They were also honoring this year’s Fighting Spirit Award recipient Adam Frederick. Frederick won the fight against Ewing’s Sarcoma and currently serves as Hampton High School’s varsity football quarterback coach. Proceeds from the event will go toward the American Cancer Society’s cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient services.
