Nittany Lion pride and the luck of the Irish — that was the charming combination that attracted Colleen Dunn and Ryan Patrick to one another. They met as students at Penn State University and reconnected after college on St. Patrick’s Day in Pittsburgh. Two years later, Ryan took Colleen back to Happy Valley for a hike. They stopped atop Indian Lookout, which Colleen describes as gorgeous and breathtaking. He proposed with hundreds of miles of Central Pennsylvania’s landscape in the background, and, after Colleen’s yes, Ryan poured glasses of bubbly for a toast. Colleen’s childhood priest wed the couple at St. Mary of the Mount Church. The bride wore a simple, lace Watters dress, and Oakmont Florist decorated with hydrangeas and roses to complement the Kelly green and pink color scheme. Colleen’s mother made the ring bearer’s pillow, the card box, and sashes for the flower girls’ dresses. “Sharing that whole experience with my parents was special and something that I’ll never forget. I know the same goes for Ryan,” she says. The reception was held at Fox Chapel Golf Club, where 150 guests greeted the newlyweds, and their favorite Penn State DJ, DJ Eric from Nittany Entertainment, announced them to a mix of the Penn State’s fight song and “Zombie Nation.” “That DJ was a big part of my college experience, so it was special having him there and playing all of our favorite Penn State songs,” she says. Fittingly, the couple first danced to “The Luckiest” by Ben Folds Five, and at the end of the night, their guests waved them goodbye with sparklers. – Ben Boskovich
