And it seems like we are always searching for the fountain of youth: the feel-better, look-younger, face-tightening, year-stretching elixir/potion/cream/drink/supplement/drug. Almost two decades ago, the world started buzzing about the “French Paradox,” the phenomenon that our Mediterranean neighbors eat a high-fat, high-carb diet of breads, cheeses, and pastries but have a remarkably low occurrence of heart disease compared to Americans because they also consume a lot more red wine. This is when a drink-a-day became what the doctor ordered.
