As an event planner with East Wing Events, Bethany Drake fell in love with Succop Nature Park’s natural beauty, trails, ponds, and herb gardens. So, when it came time to plan her own wedding to fiancé Evan Addams, who she met while attending Grove City College, Succop felt like a natural choice. On the big day, 280 of Bethany and Evan’s friends and family members gathered to celebrate in the elegantly rustic space, which was decorated in blues, browns, creams, and yellows with metallic, burlap, and lace accents. “Succop Nature Park has so many different areas — it made for a really cool atmosphere, especially in the evening,” says Bethany. “People could go explore by themselves or with their significant other, and we had a little fire pit set up for people to enjoy at the end of the night.” The couple’s favorite memento of the day was honoring Evan’s grandparents during the “anniversary dance.” For their 65th wedding anniversary, the bride and groom presented them with a cake, and arranged for the band to play their special song as they took to the dance floor. Says Bethany, “It was beautiful to celebrate the commitment they made, knowing that we were beginning the same journey.”

On the day of a picnic Evan planned for Bethany, she awakened to a love letter on her pillow! He later arrived, with flowers and her favorite treats in tow, and they drove to a special spot where he planted more love letters in the woods. “We ‘stumbled’ upon a piano keyboard and he played the song he promised to save for the girl he’d spend the rest of his life with,” she says. After Evan proposed, he whisked his new fiancé off for a hot air balloon ride! When the lovebirds landed, their families met them for a celebratory dinner.

Julie James Design created a variety of arrangements with ranunculus, roses, blue hydrangeas, and butterscotch cushion mums, along with thyme and rosemary for a natural, garden-feel. Bethany and her father crafted flower boxes with leftover wood from building her parents’ log house.

While the bridesmaids wore lovely cocktail-length BHLDN dresses in a true-blue hue, the groomsmen kept it casual and comfortable in tan tropical-blend suits from JoS. A. Bank, paired with crisp white button downs and plaid ties.
