This October, we’re gearing up for fall festivities. There are pumpkins to pick and apple cider to drink. But most importantly, there are fun treats — and maybe a few tricks — around every corner. Enjoy the fall foliage as you travel around town to the

region’s beautiful resorts.

October 1 – 8 This week, explore two of Western Pennsylvania’s woodsy wonders — Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater. Nemacolin’s Frank Lloyd Wright Package pairs history with pampering. Enjoy a tour of the architect’s famous designs — Fallingwater or Kentuck Knob — both located only 20 minutes from the resort, then spend the night at Nemacolin, and the next morning, enjoy breakfast in the Autumn or Aqueous dining room. Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, 866.344.6957. Fallingwater, 724.329.8501. Kentuck Knob, 724.329.1901.

October9 15 300x209 Autumn Allure October 9 – 15 Make plans early and reserve a spot at the Boo at the Zoo at Oglebay, starting this month. Create your most clever costume and take the kids out for the annual celebration. Take a trip on the Spooky Special Train Ride and collect candy and treats from eight stations throughout the zoo. Spend the night at Wilson Lodge, and take a dip in the resort’s indoor pool. Plus, fill up on breakfast before doing some shopping — choose to stay the whole weekend and receive a 10 percent discount in all of the retail shops. Oglebay Resort and Conference Center, 800.624.6988.

October16 22 181x300 Autumn Allure October 16 – 22 The great outdoors are beckoning to us, so we’re off to explore at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort. The resort’s Harvest Hayride Getaway package (available Fridays and Saturdays through the end of the month) includes a deluxe guestroom for two nights and breakfast in the Crystal Room the next morning. But we’re most excited for the daily activities: a voucher for the haunted hayride and corn maze at Burkett’s Haunted Hayride and a specially prepared picnic lunch basket to enjoy at Red Oak Lake. We can’t forget to mention the mountain pies we plan on devouring by the outdoor fire pit! Omni Bedford Springs Resort, 814.623.8100.

October23 31 300x222 Autumn Allure October 23 – 31 The drive from Pittsburgh into West Virginia is filled with fall foliage, so we recommend heading to The Greenbrier this month to explore more. Check out the Discover Package and fall in love with the outdoor opportunities at the resort, surrounded by the mountains, trails, and recreational amenities. The package includes accommodations for two nights, $100 Resort Activities Credit, and daily breakfast. The Greenbrier, 800.453.4858.

Light Travel The Allegheny County Airport Authority and Transportation Security Administration in Pittsburgh is adding an Express Security Lane at Pittsburgh International Airport, a plus for travelers looking to cut back on baggage fees and are traveling with only one carry-on item. Travelers should be mindful that the one item includes computer bags, purses, and briefcases, but jackets may be carried in addition to your one item. Officials hope that the lane will increase the speed of line traffic, and have a positive effect during the upcoming holiday travel season. Pittsburgh International Airport, — Ben Boskovich
