As Ashley Campolongo was planning her dream wedding with Jeffrey Czaplicki, one detail became immediately obvious: “There’s no way I was going to sit on an uncomfortable seat all night in a big, poofy gown!” To accommodate the full, tulle skirt the bride tied on to her lace Monique Lhuillier gown, the couple opted to break from tradition and share a plush, sweetheart throne. Surrounded by their bridal party members, who sat at a customary head table, the happy couple stayed cozy while still celebrating with those closest to them during their reception. Jim Carlucci, owner of Della Robbia Flowers & Gifts in Jefferson Hills, constructed an ivy wall behind the upholstered statement piece from All Occasions Party Rental, and adorned the backdrop with picture frames and mirrors that Ashley and Jeffrey had thrifted and spray-painted gold. The result was an intimate and romantic scene under a billowy tent on The Frick Art & Historical Center’s Great Lawn. Gilded touches covered every inch of the space — from the pearl-and-paisley-covered cake by Rania’s Catering, to the grand candelabras from Keystone Ribbon & Floral Supply — creating a timeless scene straight out of Ashley’s Gatsby-inspired dream. “I wanted to do something different,” Ashley says. “When you’re different, that’s what people remember. It was like a fairytale.”
