It was late December, and Ashley Barna was busy prepping the house for the holidays when her boyfriend, Travis Brown, asked her to dinner to meet his boss. She accompanied him, though his boss “never showed.” As planned, the couple enjoyed an intimate evening Downtown that ended with a big surprise at PPG Ice Rink. “We were looking at the tree and the next thing I knew, he turned me around and was on one knee,” Ashley says. “It was a blur.” The pair tied the knot at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown, where Ashley is the director of weddings and special events. “Everyone at the hotel was excited for our wedding!” she says. When it was suggested by her supervisor, Regional Vice President Scott Marn, to host her wedding there, Ashley says she was elated with the endless possibilities. The ladies prepped for the festivities in the Sky Lounge on the 24th floor, and the bride and her father circled the block in a horse-drawn carriage before the ceremony in the ground-level ballroom. Looking back, Ashley says the best thing she could have done to prepare was not to worry. “Don’t stress about the little stuff,” she says. “At the end of the day, you’re marrying your partner — the love of your life. Enjoy it!”

Ashley donned an embellished, A-line Stella York dress with a sweetheart bodice from The Exquisite Bride. “We pulled five off of the racks to try on,” she says. She found “the one” with little difficulty and describes the moment as “so ‘Say Yes to the Dress.’”

During the ceremony, Ashley, Travis, and their son, Tavin, poured different colored sand together to symbolize their family’s unity. “All of these colors of sand came together and they cannot be separated — just like the coming together of our family,” says the bride.

In addition to a wedding cake and a groom’s cake by Bethel Bakery, guests got their fill in an entire dessert room! With a s’mores bar, dessert martinis, homemade cookies, candy, a popcorn bar, ice cream sundaes, and late-night sliders and fries, “no one went home hungry,” Ashley says.
