On the morning of their wedding, Seolhee Kim and Sanjay Patel quietly and smilingly strolled through the streets of Downtown Pittsburgh. Decked out in traditional Indian wedding garb — Sanjay is Indian, Seolhee hails from Korea — the two took a moment to relax before saying “I do” at the Omni William Penn Hotel. “It was kind of the last minute of peace before the insanity — and not in a bad way at all,” says the groom. Sanjay’s relatives helped bedeck the beautiful bride in decadent layers of gold beading, bangles, and henna tattoos. The couple, who currently lives in New York City, decided that sneaking in an early, pre-ceremony meeting would also be a good opportunity to capture an urban landscape in some of their photos. As they gaze into each others eyes during their serene stroll, the connection — which sparked during a shared 4 a.m. shift in the emergency room where they both worked — is obvious. “You’re not suppose to see each other [before the wedding], but we didn’t care,” says Sanjay of their “first look” photo session. We love that this couple is making their own rules because in the end, love does conquer all.
