This year, the 12th Annual Mel Blount Youth Home All-Star Celebrity Roast bridged the gap between the former and current Pittsburgh Steelers. Though the event typically honors Steelers alumni, current Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward was the roastee du jour. Mel Blount says one of the night’s most memorable moments took place when Master of Ceremonies Lynn Swann introduced a special guest by calling out, “Is there a bus in the house?” Former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis arrived, surprising Ward and the crowd of more than 900, who erupted with applause. Steelers linebacker James Farrior, kicker Jeff Reed, coach Mike Tomlin and wide receivers coach Randy Fichtner were also on hand to roast Ward. Says Blount, the annual success of the event is “a testimony to the peoples’ love for what we’re doing and the Steelers.”
